ART

Art evokes imagination

For the summer session, 23 individual or group artists unfold their works with curator Kenji Kubota. In the town of Ishinomaki and the newly added area around the Onagawa Station, we will see a lot of works in relation to the human society, and on the Oshika Penisula, rich in nature, many works would remind us of the relationship between people and nature.

MUSIC

Music fuses with community

Musician Takeshi Kobayashi will produce the installation work based on the songs created in the 10th year after the earthquake, as well as some music programs that will also be available online. We will express a world of sound that can only be deepened and played at this time and place.

FOOD

Food expands possibility

The chefs representing Ishinomaki, along with local producers and renowned chefs from around Japan, will rediscover potential of food/dishes from Ishinomaki. Besides the chefs’ sessions, symposiums and markets, there will be popular events such as food adventure, restaurant and eatery. They will provide people with unique eating experiences and disseminate hints for the sustainability for the future.

Greeting from the Administration Office
Reborn-Art Festival is a comprehensive art festival involving art, music and food in and around Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture. It is one of the stricken areas of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the festival started in 2017 with the keyword “Reborn-Art = people’s skill to live.”

In this 3rd festival and the 10th anniversary of the Earthquake, we aim to fulfil our purpose of “reconstruction from within the region and generation of new circulations” in two sessions: summer 2021 and spring 2022.

The theme is “altruism and fluidity.” While facing nature’s ferocity again with fear for fluidity of the virus now, we find positive potentials in different fluidity of digital communications. We are also renewing our perception of “humans are part of nature,” and we perceive how the border between the self and the other might be changing.

We welcome curator Kenji Kubota for the summer session, and in addition to those in Ishinomaki town and the Oshika Peninsula, we also present artworks around the Onagawa Station. We realize the festival as a place to share imagination for others and for the world should be in the future.
